Well, the first BCS poll is out and much to the dismay of Sooner coaches, players, and fans - - - the Sooners are not listed among the top 25. (I'm unsure if this has EVER happened before!?) BUT - - - -
While experiencing an uncommon number of injuries the Sooners are showing their fighting spirit and determination. Three losses - - YES - - but, those three losses are by 3 points to #3 Texas, 1 point to #10 Miami, and 1 point to #16 BYU. In my humble (and biased) opinion, we are as good, or better, than any of those three teams and could very easily have been unbeaten and at the top of the poll - - even without our Heisman winning QB, the best TE in the nation, and some key LBs. Chances are that at the end of the season the Sooners will be rated much higher than at present. We play #25 Kansas this week and then have #15 Oklahoma State in Norman in November. AND - - you will see many of the teams ahead of us falling in the polls.
Regarding Sam Bradford, our Heisman winning QB - - while nothing has been determined at this time - - I expect him to have surgery to correct his shoulder problem, miss the remainder of the season, give all medical reports to the pros, learn where he stands in the next draft, and then make a decision whether to return for his senior year at Oklahoma, or go pro. That opinion is nothing more than common sense after reading comments from those with more information than myself. There is no reason to risk further injury and very good reasons to give experience to the QB that will take the field next season.
While, the Sooner coaches and players work to fill in for the missing players and improve our young offensive line - - the Sooner defense is "playing lights out" and will give us a GREAT CHANCE to finish our season on a winning note. This is the kind of season that labels fans - - Sunshine Pumpers? Doom and Gloomers? Fair weather? Loyal? Bandwagon? Realists? As for me - - you'll find me supporting the Sooners win or lose, hoping for the best, always looking for improvement, hurting for the players that have worked so hard, only, to suffer career effecting injuries, and you'll find me "yelling my head off" at the watch party this Saturday. HOW ABOUT YOU??? (Please reply NOW with Yes, No, or Hopefully!)
