Hey Sooners,
A big BOOMER SOONER to the Big 12 Champions the Oklahoma Sooners. In Bob Stoops nine years as the Sooner's head coach we have been Champions five of those years
- - no other Big 12 coach, or team, can claim more than one. Ain't it great to be a Sooner!!??
Well, many who follow college sports very closely think the BCS got it wrong - - of course, I agree with them, BUT - - I think back to when we lost the Big 12 to KSU and still played in the National Championship game so I'll take things as they are and move on to the Fiesta Bowl. (What else can I do?)
We moved up from 9th to 4th in the BCS with our smashing victory over #1 Missouri, BUT - - LSU gained the #2 spot as they barely, squeaked out a victory over Tennessee who, I think, was rated in the upper teens. The week before as we spanked OSU we moved up one spot as four teams ahead of us lost - - including LSU with their loss to the Razorbacks BUT YET - - stayed ahead of us in the rankings. (What's going on here???) Also, some of the computer polls place Missouri (that we defeated twice) ahead of us. (Hard to understand.) We are a fumbled punt - - or - - an Injured QB - - or - - a last second 52 yard field goal away from a shot at the National Championship. (Isn't is strange how voters did NOT take note of that.) Yet, voters listened to Les Miles (LSU) when he said "Our two losses came in triple overtime games" however, he failed to mention that three of their wins were very, very close to being losses. And - -Ohio State defeated no one in the top twenty, stayed idle for two weeks as others competed for a top rating, and - - ended up #1. (Quite frankly, I have little interest in the National Championship game this year and feel that the two best teams are not involved in the game.) The Coaches poll is a joke - - the coaches do not watch or care about games other than their own team or their opponents. The other polls are just as bad in that they show bias or simply a reflection of won/lost records without regard to who the team is playing. I, for one, favor some kind of playoff system!
Enough of my ranting - - let's move on to an exciting finish to another great Sooner season as:
The Sooners meet West Virginia in
The Fiesta Bowl
Wednesday, January 2, 2008
Fox TV at 7:00 pm
Watch for my emails for details on the Gulf Coast Sooners Watch Party. The site is not yet determined and I'm open to your suggestions in this regard. (Be aware this will be our last "get together" for some time. (I sure hate to see the season end; it's a loooong time 'til it picks up again!) There will be multiple Sooner door prizes and a BIG stuffed animal (Sooner flavored, of course) for one of our lucky kids at the party.
Make your plans NOW to be present!!
Other notes of interest:
Coach Stoops will be in the Mobile area this week visiting Julio Jones in Foley; JJ is the top wide receiver and the #1 recruit in the nation. (Will you be camping out at the Mobile airport?) Julio will make an official visit to Norman on January 26th; he has made it to three Sooner games this year plus the Spring Game. (We are very much in the race for his signature!) I can't help but believe that Sam Bradford, our skill players, our offensive line, our defense, and a real great shot at a National Championship next year may have a real positive influence on Julio.
I'm in the process of forming a new email list for the Gulf Coast Sooners. Many of the addresses I now have are incorrect or belong to people who have no interest in being a part of the Gulf Coast Sooners. I have made notes of those who are attending our Watch Parties or show an interest in our group in ANY way and will make certain you are included in our email list. ( I do not want to eliminate who wants to remain on our email list.) Many have replied saying "keep me on the list" - - if you have not done so - - - DO IT NOW!!!
GO SOONERS!!! "Murph"
